The State of Arkansas is a member of the Free File Alliance.
The Free File Alliance is a group of software providers working with the State of Arkansas and the IRS to donate free tax preparation for taxpayers.
What this means to Taxpayers is that if you meet the qualifying criteria, you can prepare and efile your tax return for FREE.
File for Free? - How do I get started...
Step 1 - Choose a Provider.
You will need to go to our list of our Online Providers. This is a list of tax preparation software providers that have asked to be listed on our web site. It will be a combination of sites that offer free services and pay services.
Step 2 - Determining Your Eligibility.
You must first determine your eligibility for using a particular company. Each company has a simple description of their eligibility criteria for using their free service. This criteria is usually posted by at least mid January for the new filing season. We will update information as we receive it.
Please understand that the State of Arkansas can not recommend one provider over another. We will just give you the information and you can choose who to use.
Step 3 - Link to the Provider.
After choosing a company, click on the company's name which will send you directly to the company's web site. You may then begin the preparation of your tax return.
Step 4 - You may exceed eligibility criteria after selecting a company.
After you start preparing your tax return with a particular company, you may determine that you are not eligible for that company's Free File Service and you may be subject to a fee.
If this notification occurs, you have the following options:
- Before you finalize your return and agree to pay, return to the list of Online Providers and review their services and select another company you where you may qualify for free filing.
- Continue completing your return but take note of the fee displayed on the company's web site. If you agree to this, you will be subject to the fee listed.
