Administering Discipline (CPM Designated)

Administering Discipline gives state administrators the knowledge and skills to handle disciplinary matters in a fair, effective manner.  The course focuses on how to use progressive discipline as a means for restoration, rather than mere punishment.
Duration: 1 Day

Basic First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Designed for individuals to learn and practice the skills needed for providing first aid and CPR lifesaving techniques.
Duration: 4 Hours

Conducting Effective Meetings

This course teaches participants how to make the most of meetings by determining when a meeting is necessary; how to prepare effectively for meetings; and how to keep other participants from derailing discussions.  
Duration: 1/2 Day

Dealing with Difficult People

Dealing with Difficult People covers the most difficult types of people you encounter during work and provides you with the techniques to deal with them. While no one fits into a specific category at all times, characteristics can be identified and dealt with effectively.  This course will provide strategies and tools to help you with cope with difficult people and situations.

EEO/Grievance Officer Certification

This course prepares EEO/Grievance Officers with the skills necessary for the handling and processing of employee complaints within the agency, the State Grievance Review Committee and the State Employees Grievance Appeal Panel. Participants must complete T.H.E. COURSE as a prerequisite. Participants should bring a copy of the agency's grievance/ EEO procedures to Certificate Program Training.

Emotional Intelligence

In this critically acclaimed course, participants will learn to apply emotional intelligence to the world of work.  Studies show that, when determining who is a star performer, emotional intelligence matters twice as much as cognitive abilities like IQ or technical expertise.  The good news is that these crucial skills can be learned. Grievance Prevention and Handling (CPM Designated)

Resolving employee grievances is a major responsibility for supervisors and administrators.  This course will teach participants about the grievance process and how to find mutually beneficial solutions for employees and supervisors.

HR 101

Provide agency HR Personnel and Management a general overview and insight of personnel topics of daily agency operations, procedures, and decision-making processes facilitated by OPM.

Interpersonal Communication

Many of the problems we encounter in the workplace are caused by miscommunication.  Interpersonal Communication covers the different ways in which we communicate, barriers to communication, the importance of perception, and techniques for clear and effective communication.

Presenting Testimony (CPM Designated)

State employees are often called upon to present testimony to courts, legislative committees, and administrative bodies.  Presenting Testimony prepares participants to testify in formal proceedings.

Preventing Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is still a concern in the modern workplace.  Course participants will learn what constitutes sexual harassment, how to handle sexual harassment concerns, and the consequences of handling sexual harassment situations improperly.

Structured Interviewing

Hiring decisions are some of the most important decisions that managers make.  Structured Interviewing is a pre-planned interviewing method using job-specific, behaviorally-based questions designed to predict job performance. This course improves participants’ interviewing methods and skills and focuses on practical application.

T.H.E. Course (CPM Designated)

The Human Element combines behavior-interaction in the workplace with the application of sound management practices in the areas of EEO, discipline and basic personnel management. It is designed to help management and supervisory personnel minimize the potential for problems.

Workplace Diversity

The make-up of the work force is as diverse as society itself, with people from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.  This course increases awareness of how diversity impacts productivity in the workplace. It includes techniques and tools to enable participants to realize the benefits of diversity and apply them in a practical way in the workplace.

“CPM Designated” means courses which have been qualified as contact hours toward Certified Public Manager Certification offered by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
