Driver Services

The Office of Driver Services administers the State Driver's License and ID card program (testing is administered by Arkansas State Police). It consists of six sections: Administrative, Driver's License Issuance, Safety Responsibility, Insurance Verification, and Driver Control.

The Administrative Section oversees the State Driver's License and ID card program. Testing is administered by the Arkansas State Police.

Driver's License Issuance receives telephone calls from the general public and state revenue offices concerning driver’s license problems. It processes licenses issued under special areas such as valid without photograph. It also processes military extensions, researches problems that are not routine and assists law enforcement with investigations where driver's licenses or driver's license information is requested.

Safety Responsibility maintains motor vehicle accident reporting for financial responsibility compliance along with suspension of driver's license or vehicle registrations for failure to comply with the Financial responsibility Law.

Insurance Verification is responsible for monitoring the Insurance Verification and Notification Network. This network is made up of all insurance companies that write insurance on vehicles garaged in Arkansas. Requires monthly update on insurance coverage and cancellation by each company.

Driver Control identifies and takes appropriate action in dealing with problem drivers. (Problem drivers include: those who have DUIs, DWIs, excessive traffic violations or are subject to court orders affecting their driving privileges).
