Greg Sled, Arkansas Tobacco Control Director, passes away after 25 years of service

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (December 18, 2023) – Greg Sled, Director of the Arkansas Tobacco Control Division, passed away Sunday, December 17th. Greg joined Arkansas Tobacco Control in October 1998, and led the Tobacco Control Division since 2020.

Tobacco Control is an office within the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration’s (DFA) Regulatory Division.

“Bryan and I were saddened to learn of Greg’s passing. His decades of service left a deep, lasting impact on our state. Our prayers are with Cynthia, the Sled family, and all who knew and loved Greg,” said Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Established in 1997, the mission of Arkansas Tobacco Control is to ensure all retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers of tobacco, vapor and alternative nicotine products fully adhere to all Arkansas tobacco laws.

“Greg had a heart for public service, and that was evident in his work,” said DFA Secretary Jim Hudson. “We are grateful for his dedication and his willingness to serve. The state of Arkansas is a better place because of Greg Sled, and our prayers are with his family and many friends.”

“When Greg talked about leading Tobacco Control, he referred to it as his dream job,” said Trent Minner, Administrator of DFA’s Regulatory Division. “Greg was a true servant leader, and he cared deeply about his people. Greg’s impact will be felt around here for a long time, and  his memory will be honored for years to come through the work of Arkansas Tobacco Control.”

Greg Sled was a native of Crossett. He is survived by his wife Cynthia, three children and four grandchildren.

Director Sled’s funeral will be Wednesday, December 20th at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Cabot. The graveside service will be held the following day in Crossett.
