Veteran Designation
A person may apply to the Office of Driver Services to obtain a veteran designation on a driver’s license or identification card by providing:
A military discharge document that shows a discharge status of “honorable” or “general under honorable conditions” and establishes the person’s service in the United States Armed Forces, including without limitation a:
- United States Department of Defense DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty;
- National Guard Bureau NGB Form 22 Report of Separation and Record of Service;
- Veteran Identification Card issued by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs;
- United States Department of Defense Form DD 256;
- United States Department of Defense Form DD 257;
- United States Department of Defense Form DD 2, Retired; or
- United States Department of Defense Form DD 2, Reserve Retired; and
- Payment of the fee for the driver’s license or identification card.
Extension of Expiration Date of Licenses for Military Members
“Military member” means an active duty member of:
- The Air National Guard, including a member on state active duty;
- The Army National Guard, including a member on state active duty;
- A reserve component of the United States Armed Forces; or
- A branch of the United States Armed Forces.
Unless the driver’s license is suspended, canceled, or revoked, a driver’s license issued by this state to a military member shall not expire while the military member is not residing in this state if the military member applies for an official extension of the expiration date as required by the Office of Driver Services.
If approved, a driver’s license with an extended expiration date shall remain valid until sixty (60) days after the military member separates or is honorably discharged from active duty military service.
