Commercial Restrictions

§ 27-23-111(b)(3)(B)(i-xii)

Only Diesel Fuel and Fertilizer Vehicles – Assigned by Revenue Office for a RCDL.  Restricts the individual to only transporting the following types of loads:

  • Diesel fuel in quantities of 1,000 gallons or less
  • Liquid fertilizer in quantities of 3,000 gallons or less
  • Solid fertilizer not missed with any organic substances

E

No Manual Transmission Equipped Commercial Motor Vehicle – Assigned by ASP.  Restricts the individual from operating a commercial vehicle equipped with a manual transmission.

K

Intrastate Only – Assigned certifying NA or EA on a Medical Self-Certification form, the individual is restricted to operating a commercial vehicle within the state of issuance only.

L

No Air Brake Equipped Commercial Motor Vehicle – Assigned by ASP.  Restricts the individual to only operate a commercial vehicle not equipped with an air braking system.

M

No Class A Passenger Vehicle – Assigned by ASP.

CLP – Indicates a Class B driver who possesses a P and/or S endorsement.

CDL – Restricts the individual with a Class A or B license to a Class C vehicle when transporting passengers.

N

No Class A or Class B Passenger Vehicle

O

No Tractor – Trailer CMV – Assigned by ASP.  Restricts the individual with a Class A license to only operating a truck and trailer vehicle that uses a Pintle Hook hitch coupling system.

V

Medical Variance - Medical variance means a driver has received one of the following from FMCSA that allows the driver to be issued a medical certificate:

  • An exemption letter permitting operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • A skill performance evaluation certificate permitting operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Must issue a duplicate license when adding and removing a medical variance.

W

Seasonal Farm Service Vehicle – Assigned by Revenue Office.  Restricts the individual to only operating a Class B or C farm service vehicle for no more than 180 days in a 12 months period and a Class D vehicle anytime.  Can only travel 150 miles from the farm or place of business.

X

No Cargo in Commercial Tank Vehicle -- A CLP must have an X restriction – No Cargo in commercial motor vehicle (CMV) Tank Vehicle.  Restricts the individual to only operate an empty tank vehicle and is prohibited from operating any tank vehicle that previously contained hazardous materials that has not been purged of all residue.

Z

No Full Air Brake Equipped Commercial Motor Vehicle  -- If an applicant performs the skills test in a vehicle equipped with air over hydraulic brakes, the State must indicate on the CDL, if issued, that the person is restricted from operating a CMV equipped with any braking system operating fully on the air brake principle.  For the purposes of the skills test and the restriction, air over hydraulic brakes include any braking system operating partially on the air brake and partially on the hydraulic brake principle.
